Smoking and Tobacco
Tobacco smoke from cigarettes, cigars, and pipes contains over 4,000 chemicals (including at least 50 that cause, initiate, or promote cancer), and is a significant threat to one’s health. Marijuana smoke contains over 400 chemicals, many of which can cause cancer.
Smoking is the primary cause of approximately 90% of all cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) , and puts the smoker at risk for many cancers, heart disease, and other illnesses.
Second-hand smoke can cause serious health problems for non-smokers, especially children. In New Brunswick , an estimated 22% of the population aged 15 and older smokes.
