Welcome to our website which aims to get input from the health community into the 1999, and aims to keep health professionals informed on the progress of review of the Act. CEPA is an act that aims to improve pollution prevention and protect human and environmental health in order to contribute to sustainable development. The Act is now in the final stages of review. This process will be impacted by Bill C-30, the Clean Air Act, a proposed new component of CEPA. We encourage you to learn more about the importance of CEPA to the health care community through our brief summary document “ The Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 and the Canadian Health Sector”. Our documents “ What is CEPA 1999?” and “ The CEPA Review Process” are fairly short descriptions of the Act and the Review Process. We have conducted an analysis of the Act and have summarized some key areas that need stronger actions for health protection. The “ Guidance Document” summarizes many issues related to CEPA that are important to health organizations. . Several health organizations have made submissions to the Review and these have been summarized in Table form. Full submissions of various health and environmental groups are available at www.cen-rce.org/eng/cepa/phase2/index.html Two government committees are reviewing CEPA. Hearings by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development are complete. The Senate Standing Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources may still receive input on Perfluorinated Compounds but is expected to complete hearings in February 2007. For further information on the work of these committees go to: www.parl.gc.ca |
